OMAHA, Neb. – Award-winning author Victoria Christopher Murray will discuss her book, “Harlem Rhapsody” during Great Conversations hosted by ߲Ƶ (CSM).

With almost three million books in print, Murray is one of the country’s top African American contemporary authors. She is the New York Times and USA Today best-selling author of more than 30 novels, including, “The Personal Librarian,” “The First Ladies” and the forthcoming “Pair of Aces.” All three novels were co-written by Marie Benedict. Five of Murray’s “Seven Deadly Sins” novels became Lifetime movies.

“Harlem Rhapsody” explores the story of the woman who ignited the Harlem Renaissance. The book was a Gotham Book Prize finalist and a NAACP Image Award nominee for outstanding literature.

A book signing will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon and program at 12 p.m. on April 10 at Happy Hollow Club at 1701 S. 105th St.

“We’re excited for alumni, students and the Omaha community to connect through the experience of discussing this powerful work of historical fiction. Murray brings to life the story of Jessie Redmon Fauset, the first Black woman to serve as literary editor of The Crisis,” said Jamie Jensen, annual giving and engagement officer at CSM. “As a women’s college, we’re dedicated to celebrating the lives of women who came before us and paved the way to a better future.”

A native New Yorker, Murray spent 10 years in corporate America before opening a financial services agency. In 1997, she pursued her dream of writing and self-published her first novel, “Temptation.” It was eventually published by Time Warner and remained on the Essence bestsellers list for nine months. She also received her first NAACP Image Award nomination for the book.

Murray has received numerous awards including the Phyllis Wheatley Trailblazer Award, the Delta Sigma Theta Osceola Award for Excellence in the Arts, Go On Girl Book Club Author of the Year, eleven African American Literary Awards and five NAACP Image Award nominations.
