The humanities is an interdisciplinary major with required courses drawn from seven academic programs, including; Arts, Communications, English, History, Music, Philosophy, and Theology. In addition to the courses, a project integrating knowledge and insights from two or more humanities areas is required.

As a humanities program graduate you will gain a broad background in the liberal arts and contribute to your career awareness of the intellectual, emotional, physical, ethical and aesthetic whole person as well as an acute understanding of, and sensitivity to, the human condition 鈥 qualities essential in interpersonal relationships in all professions.

With your abilities to write clearly, analyze information, conduct research and understand varying perspectives, you will be prepared to advance to graduate or professional school and to become a valuable asset in whatever career you choose. Some of the positions that humanities graduates find interesting include research, social work, grant writing, and nonprofit administration. The U.S. Department of Labor estimates in 2023, survey researchers earn a median salary of $60,410 and PayScale estimates grant writers earn a median salary of $51,658 nationally.

Before attending CSM, the Omaha resident had worked providing home visits for parenting and child development. That鈥檚 why she chose to major in humanities, which seemed to be the right fit. 鈥淚 love people. People give me energy,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 know I want to do a job related to people, helping and empowering people. I felt that was going to give me the background that I needed to connect with people.鈥
